About DNS4EU
JoinDNS4.eu (DNS4EU) is a flagship European initiative co-funded by the EU to enhance digital sovereignty in the Domain Name System. Led by the Czech cybersecurity firm Whalebone, s.r.o., and supported by a consortium of 13 members across 10 EU countries, the project provides a privacy-first public DNS resolver. It is designed to offer European citizens an alternative to non-EU resolvers that may not adhere to strict GDPR standards or lack regional threat intelligence. The service operates multiple resolver tiers, including options for ad-blocking and parental controls, all while ensuring that DNS queries are processed within the European Union. Beyond the public resolver (B2C), the project includes specialized pillars like DNS4GOV for public institutions and infrastructure solutions for telecommunications providers. By integrating local threat data from national security agencies, DNS4EU aims to provide superior protection against cyber threats specifically targeting European infrastructure.
