About Pleroma
Pleroma is an open-source microblogging server implementation written in Elixir. It is designed to be lightweight and efficient while remaining fully compatible with the ActivityPub protocol, allowing users to interact with other platforms in the Fediverse such as Mastodon, Misskey, and Pixelfed. Unlike centralized social media, Pleroma consists of many independent servers (instances) that communicate with each other. The project emphasizes user choice in interfaces, offering a variety of frontends including the official Pleroma FE, which focuses on high customizability, and Soapbox, which targets ease of use. Because it is decentralized, users can either join existing community-run instances or host their own server to maintain complete control over their data and moderation policies. Development is community-driven and hosted on a self-managed GitLab instance.
